Default Cubase Sx3 M-Audio Oxygen 8 v2 set up

Hi (hope this is the right place to post this)

I have been using Cubase Sx3 for about a year but only for mixing tracks I record on an external mixer that I then send to the pc.
I have used a keyboard to play drums with Reason3 Drum Kit 2 and other synths in Reason, a few days back I bought the Oxygen 8 and I can do all the usual stuff with it in Reason

I've never used the old keyboard with Cubase and I've been wanting a new drum software, I've downloaded the free demo for Addictive Drums and have opened it in Cubase, I can get it to play the pre loaded drum kits but nothing happens when I hit a key

I've gone into Devices then into Midi Device Manager, clicked on Install Device but the V8 is not in the list.
If I go back into Devices and go to Device Set-Up there are two choices under Default Midi Port, Midi In and Midi Out. For Midi In, All Midi Inputs is selected. For Midi Out, its coming up as Not Connected but gives me an option to select Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth(I don't know what that is), when I have Addictive Drums running it gives me the option of selecting that also, but no where can I see an option to select the Oxygen V8

I installed the cd that came with the controller and I'm sure the driver is working fine since it works ok in Reason, I just can't figure out how to get Cubase to recognize the Oxygen 8

Sorry for the long post and I guess most of ye are using Cubase 4, but any help would be greatly appreicated

Tks

Hmm. I'm still using Cubase SX3. I wish I could be of more help here, but I'm still using an old 16 pin MIDI output MIDI controller into my Presonus Firestudio. I've never had to setup a USB MIDI controller in Cubase.

Just guessing, but I would start by selecting the Oxygen 8 as the default MIDI In device in Windows control panels (in the Sound and Audio section). See if that helps with the Cubase situation.

Hey Brandon, Tks for the reply

I'm running Vista, I went into the Device Manager.
In the Sound and Video option there is two devices normally, when I have the Oxygen 8 connected that shows up also.

Intel(R) High Definition Audio HDMI.
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC.
Usb Oxygen 8 v2.

Checked all of them and they are showing up as working propably, I can't see an option to select the Oxygen 8 via Midi or an option to set it as default Midi.

I'm thinking the problem "might" be the sound card, its only the standard card issued with the laptop from Dell. Im planning on upgrading but not really sure which card to get though. There's alot on the market, I'm not sure which is the best for recording.
Dose anyone know if there is a card that can take midi? I havn't seen any that can (but then I am a noob, lol...)

Check out the Home Recording Soundcard Wizard.

Sure. Many audio interface accept the 16 pin MIDI input. This is how I've done it since 2001.

I finally got Cubase to recgonize the controller

I don't have space to record a full kit, so for the most part I've used Reason Drum Kit 2, which I played on an old keyboard that had midi inputs going into an Audiophile 2946 but the other day my computer took a massive dump, so I went out and bought a laptop and a midi controller

I've never used a VST but wanted another drum programme, I came across Addictive Drums and downloaded the free demo, I only used the old keyboard with Reason and not as a controller, but all's good now

I record onto an external mixer and then send the tracks to the Cubase for mixing, I had a look at the Home Recording Soundcard Wizard. The Presonus Firepod looks good, but right now all I want to do is get better latency and sound, for the time being I don't need to record into the computer

Is there a card on the market that would be a good upgrade from a stock card that will improve latency?

Thanks again

All the audio interfaces in the Soundcard Wizard are low latency. That's the main criteria for an audio interface.

Yes I understand this,

As I said I dont record into the computer

I use 3 software progs Cubase, Reason, and Waves. I was just thinking a soundcard would help the latency when using those

Since I dont need analog inputs/preamps/hiZ/digital inputs/midi, what I meant was is there a card on the market that just helps with low latency?

All the cards on the wizard have all the things I don't need right now

Tks

I'm not sure what you mean. I'm guessing that you don't record audio, but you do MIDI sequencing and need low latency for that.

I'm not aware of any audio interface / soundcard that doesn't have at least some inputs. Your best bet would be to go with a budget card like the Audiophile 2496 like you've already had. Something like a Delta 44 would work too.
