Yeah.. I did try that.. My audio card is asio compatible n the input n output hav been identified.. my problem is when i import a song from my hard disc onto cubase, i can see the waveform image but when i press the play button(in transport) nothing happens! It just turns green but the cursor remains at the start and does not move forward..![]()
When creating a new track you have the option of either mono or stereo. This isn't necessarily limited to a microphone. A bass DI, for example, is a mono line in. A keyboard may have a stereo line ins.how do i change my recording medium to microphone and stereo??
That's very strange? Are you using the final version of Cubase SX3? You can download it at Steinberg. Is your operating system clean? Under Devices do you have your audio interface selected?i can see the waveform image but when i press the play button(in transport) nothing happens!
Brandon
Yep.. My OS is totally clean. No hints of any virus whatsoever.. I have a very powerful anti-virus software installed.
And yes I have selected my sound card under devices..
Problem persists!![]()
Unfortunately, this can sometimes be worse than the virus. I'm sure you are fine in that department.I have a very powerful anti-virus software installed.
Are you able to record audio? Is there a chance the file you are importing is disagreeinng with Cubase? Can you open the file in media player?my problem is when i import a song from my hard disc onto cubase, i can see the waveform image but when i press the play button(in transport) nothing happens!
You didn't mention if you were using the final version or not. It fixed quite a few little bugs.
Brandon
hey! FINALLY the cursor is moving forward.. but there is still no sound o/p.. i can see the waveform.. the cursor moves over the waveform during play.. but there s no effect on the meters n der's no sound..
i tried recording onto a new audio track from a microphone and the cursor moves but it just moves on blank page! there is nothing getting recorded..
Important things to learn about:
devices/ device setup/ VSTaudio
This is where you choose the audio system you want to use, it should be ASIO so if you have a sound card with asio drivers use that driver that you installed or install and use asio4all if your card doesn't have asio drivers.
Then
devices/ VSTconnections
is where you configure how cubase will connect with your audio hardware.
You can change default settings add input or output bus's, rename them etc.
Your changes will be reflected in the inputs and outputs available on your tracks.
I never finish a mix, just abandon it.
@tacman7 yes sir! those are things that i checked thoroughly before approaching this forum..
My sound card is being displayed in the afore mentioned places..
But in the 'VST connections' where my sound card is shown, in the 'bus name' coloumn, on the left of the name of the sound card, there is a small icon in the form of a speaker which is RED..
anything i should b worried about..??
If you aren't getting the meters to work it's almost always a sign of something wrong in the drivers themselves. You never mentioned what audio interface you were using, but I suspect it's drivers are the problem. You never mentioned if playing the file in Media Player worked either.i can see the waveform.. the cursor moves over the waveform during play.. but there s no effect on the meters n der's no sound.
Once you get the meters to work (Make sure you haven't muted the track or the audio clip...both are possible) if there is no sound that's generally a routing issue.
That also points to the driver installation of the sound card you are using. But in the 'VST connections' where my sound card is shown, in the 'bus name' coloumn, on the left of the name of the sound card, there is a small icon in the form of a speaker which is RED..
If Cubase is telling you there is a problem, it's a safe bet that the problem isn't Cubase.
Brandon
oops.. sorry i forgot to mention!
Yes, the audio works and plays well in media player.. and i've made sure well enough that i haven't muted it at any level in cubase or my system.
The sound card i am using is a Realtek AC'97 audio card.. and cubase tells me it is ASIO compatible..
Is there some other audio card which i should be using..?? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Please address all my concerns (specifically about Media Player and drivers).
Brandon
In the 'VST Connections - outputs' window, in the table, under Audio Device, it shows 'ASIO multimedia driver' and the next column - 'Device port' it shows 'Realtek AC97 audio' twice.. for left and right.. The Bus name is 'ASIO Multimedia Driver Stereo Out'. And it is on the immediate left of this that there is a small speaker symbol that's red..
And the audio that i try to play through cubase does play normally in all the media players i have..
Have i addressed all your questions..??
P.S: I earnestly admire the patience and detail with which you solve every problem.. That's what makes this forum so very helpful for starters like me..
Cheers!

SOS! Ppl... help!
I've got to know what happens when you play an audio file in Windows Media Player.
You may want to re-read the thread to see if there is anything else I asked / suggested. I need all of this information before I can be sure of a solution (if I can be sure of a solution).
Brandon
I'm using the final version of Cubase SX3.. (and as you said it fixes a host of bugs..) i'm fine in that dept.
Should i give a shot at changing my sound card..?? any that u suggest..??
