Default Cubase SX 3 really irritating problems!

Hi all!

Im new to this forum so if for some reason Im in the wrong place please let me know!

Heres my issue; I was using Cubase SX 3, and it was working perfect. I decided to delete my Pro Tools (Im using LE 7, with an MBOX Mini Digi Design). I never use it and the guitar amp on there is awful, so once I deleted Pro Tools, stupidly, I go to Cubase, and theres no sound, so I check the device driver, and of course, Digi Design Driver is no longer an option (surprise surprise!). I switch the driver to ASIO Duplex, and then all of a sudden, Cubase does not work.

I unistalled and deleted everything having to do with Cubase, reinstalled ProTools LE 7 (in the vain attempt that maybe it would fix something), Pro tools running just fine, I then reinstall my Cubase SX 3, and ..

it crashes RIght when it gets to "Initializing: ASIO direct X duplex driver"
It hangs on for a minute and then says "Cubase has an error and needs to close" etc. It starts to Initialize, and then crashes at that point.

Here is one of the error messages I got:The instruction at "0x7c911bf4" referenced memory at "0x8b0f44c4".The memory could not be "written".

I unistalled it and reinstalled in several times, including trying to repair it to no avail. Obviously it has something to do with ASIO, I cant figure it out, Im really not good with this!
I cant open the ASIO Direct X Duplex setup, it gives me an error message---Dxfdsetup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

However I CAN open ASIO Multimedia Setup (however, I dont know what to do here or if this is where I can fix my problem). Ive run tests not really knowin what to do, and they all say everything is running fine?

Im really confused and would appreciate help so much! Im getting ready to release an EP in a month and I'd really like my Cubase to work!

-Cheers

It sounds like something still has it pointed to the ASIO driver even after an uninstall. After you uninstall it, make sure the Steinberg folder in Program files is gone and also under documents and settings common files, etc. Also there could be some registry entries hanging in the machine that I do not suggest messing with. You need to fix "ASIO Direct X Duplex setup" exe somehow - reinstall?

This is a tricky one. I would have to use instinct alone to solve this one. My advice would be extremely generic. Restart often. Attempt to install to a different directory. See what happens if you launch Cubase SX3 while Windows is safe mode.

With Cubase SX 3 installed in its default location you should have a folder at \Program Files\Steinberg\ASIO. In that folder are a couple of small programs used for configuring the ASIO drivers for your interface. Their file names are Dxdsetup.exe and Wpsetup.exe. Try launching those and see if you can get Cubase to use your available ASIO drivers.

If that doesn't get you there and you're ready to have a go at your registry (I'm sure you've heard all the warning about not mucking with the registry) then you will find the ASIO registry key at Local Machine\Software\ASIO. Right click on the ASIO registry key (looks like a folder in regedit), copy it to your desktop and then delete the key from your registry. Reinstall your audio interface and then see if you can get everything working. If this causes more problems or simply doesn't work then double click the registry key that you copied to your desktop and the data will be imported back into the registry. You'll end up in the same place you are now but it shouldn't make matters worse (ASIO drivers are not required for the OS to operate).

Good luck.

When I try and open Dxdsetup.exe it causes the error message saying Memory cannot be read, etc etc, sorry for the inconvinience.

I CAN open Wpsetup.exe. That then takes me to ASIO Multimedia Setup, but I dont know what to do here! I dont see my Mbox mini or Digidesign anywhere (although its asking me about playing sound back, not the interface) so right here, Im at a complete LOSS as to what to do, there are configurations and advanced options and i dont know what to mess with in order to make it work.

I dont know why the Dxdsetup.exe wont open, which is weird. I know that somewhere my problem lies here (well...Im assuming).

Anyone know what i can do from this point? I feel like Im so close!!!

Hey guys,

I fixed the problem, Im not really sure how this worked, but I went to Control Task/Sounds and Sound cards, and there was an option for my DigiDesign, so I chose that, opened Cubase, and it worked! Dont know why i didnt think of that earlier, or why it was that that needed to be switched. I didnt know anything from Control Panel would affect the settings of Cubase

Thank you all for the help!
Cheers
