Default Cubase studio 4 Tempo problems

Hi all. I'm new to Cubase and I'm tring to import a backing track so I can record guitar with it. When I import it, Cubase changes the tempo of it and the pitch and its all mess up and I can't figure out how to fix it. In Vegas Pro, I just bring in whatever I want and it plays just fine. HELP?

If the pitch is screwed up, this is mostly likely a sample rate issue or a problem with the headers of the wav file.

What is the sample rate of the file? What sample rate do you have Cubase set to?

Well, first of all, I never recommend anyone mixing in the box to use 48Khz as the sample rate because this requires resampling down to 44.1Khz and this has very adverse sonic results.

Which way is the pitch shifted? Is it lower / slower or higher / faster?

Did Cubase attempt to convert the file in any way when you imported it?

What is the sample rate of your audio interface set to?

Brandon

Its lower and slower. It doesn't matter I guess because Cubase keeps locking up and closing on me. I use 44.1khz in Vegas pro and I've never experienced this before even importing files. Yes, it coverted. but I don't know what it did. I just know that the project tempo and the imported files tempo is different....

Go into Cubase' Sample Editor and disable "music mode". ( It the G clef symbol thing). It's trying to make the imported file's tempo conform to the Cubase project tempo.

Default Cubase studio 4 Tempo problems

I have been using cubase studio 4 to create compostions for my AS level music qualification.
Does anyone know if it is possible to change the tempo of a MIDI track half way through the music without changing the previous tempo of music?

Cubase has a feature called tempo track where you can make changes to MIDI tempo. It is accessed from the PROJECT menu. Select TEMPO TRACK.
