Default cubase side-chaining

I am quite new to production and am quite primitive in the fact that I am using cubase sx2. If anyone could help me by explaining how to sidechain a kick drum and bass synth for a daft punk/pumping/electro/house style sound, in this program, then I would be very grateful
Cheers

I wouldnt' call Cubase SX3 "primitive". I'm still using Cubase SX3 because it's just that damn good and I don't feel like I need an upgrade.

You need specific plugins to do it. The stock Cubase plugins will not do it. This is something I've always wanted to get into but never have. I wish I could be of more help.

AH HA! I vaguely remember "Quadro" or "Quatro" busses when I reach the manual a few years ago. That was what I was missing. I'll be trying this today.

I just tried it out. Very interesting. I wouldn't say it's life changing by any means but in addition to being a cool trick, it does have some legitimate uses in a typical mix. Pretty cool.

You can do all sorts of things Once you master this trick Try feeding the main vocal controlling rhythm guitars What it will do is "duck" the guitars out of the way when the vocal starts This creates a more dynamic feel for your track and helps sit your vocal no more riding the faders or automating them

You also can use the same idea on a sidechain gate to tighten up bvs or anything thats doubled and slightly out of time!

Also I've learnt about the exciting compressor !

Check out this link http://http://www.recordingeq.com/cu...G%20TECHNIQUES

This is what the Mowtown in house producer came up with Boy does it work
Try it out I will soon be posting my Newest song with all my tips that I have learnt

If you don't know how to do something Put the question into a search engine
you will probably find out the answer and then find other things as well The net is a whole myriad of answers

Hey this is how I found out about this site

I have one piece of advice. Understand what all the knobs do It takes time believe me I've had sx3 for 2 years its only now That I'm beginning to understand things Try to get The Tutorial DVD by Ask its very informative and boy have I learnt loads

Take care all

Wicked, I was just trying this out the other day too.
When I first hooked it up I did it backwards(I meant to compress the bass to let the kick through), anyways, I ended up adding compression to the bass and it sounded awesome. It really tightened up the bass line, made it punchier, all of a sudden the drab bass notes were perfectly in time with the kick.
Yep.

umm that sorta sounded messed up.
Anyway instead of using the compressor to duck the bass, I used it to add more attack with the kick.
Hopefully it wasn't all just phantom notes in my head, but even still I think it's a sound theory.
