Cubase Le4 Probems

I recently bought a PreSonus External Audio and am interested in putting
the last 30 years of songs I have written down while I still have the time
and energy and the last remains of a singing voice. My problem is that
I installed Cubase Le4 on my mac Leopard 10.5 system. I can play
and hear audio files. But when I create a mini track and plop a mini drum
loop it will not play back. I can see some activity but no sound. the same
with the Instrument Track. I try to import it through HELion but it will not load the preseps that I require. I updated my LE4 to LE4.3.1 and I
think the HELion worked for about five minutes and then lost the preseps.
Just think my first post and already I have problems. I think I want to use
Cubase because it records at 24 bit 44,000 mhz and garage band records
at 16 bit 24,000 I believe. Is this a big deal?
If anybody can help I would be grateful and would love to continue using this forum. Seems full of great helpful people.

Ok, this took a minute. I think you mean MIDI not mini. MIDI is data not audio, so to hear anything you need to assign a VSTi to that track (a soft synth or drum machine) to play it through. Check your manual for MIDI operation.

Ah Yes Halion One. This was a free nugget they included in Le4 that may be more trouble tha it is worth. It seems that since you updated to 4.3.1 you now need to uninstll and reinstall Hlaion One. Here are the instructions and a link to the dedicated Halion installer:

As far as 16 bit versus 24 bit. There have been many heated debates about whether there are audible differences. 24 bit makes the files larger and the computer calculations more taxing. But I have never heard anyone say that 24 bit makes anything sound worse, so it's probably an improvement but certainly not earth shatteringly so.

Wow! Quick answer. Yes I did mean midi instead of mini.
Typing in frustration. I will take advice under advisement.
