hiya, I am a noob. its ok. im not rude. just looking for some help. I searched the forums for a couple of hours in the cubase area but I could not find a solution to my simple *hopefully* problem... So here it is... I have my pc. very good one. A tascam US-144 (inputing output from a Yamaha mixer, do not know the exact model its powerful though and output to my recording unit is on full.) and Cubase LE. I am able to record consistently no problems and really great recordings at that. The problem lies when I try to play the file again. During my recording since I record about 15 mics at once, some prucusion, about 9 vocals, and some other instruments I record at a slightly lower volume to give my self some room and to make sure nothing jumps the scale. whether or not this is normal practice I have no idea...:-/ After I go back and edit the files. I record all tracks and programs into one wav file so I can apply a universal normalize and amplify. I have tried so many times to get the volume of the files to be louder when I play it in the car. I split tracks and put them on cds. I have to raise the Volume in the car to around 13 or 14 when professional recordings play at 7 or 8... I dont think I have left anything out... oh. ummm After recording the peaks are at full on each track so there is not "extra room" im stumped. please help! First of all, I am not an expert, so please listen to the more experienced members, but I believe you will want to explore using some type of compression in the mastering phase to achieve the volume level you are missing. The danger of over-compression is that you can end up squeezing the dynamics out of your recording. |

lol. yeah what he said. If u have to ruin it for ur clients I guess so. Thanks for that...is that the only way to make it louder. I think I have played with that a bit but it did start distorting a bit. Thanks again :-) |

As was pointed out, much of the music produced today is made with large amounts of compression so each artist can have the "loudest" music out there. |

If you've normalized the track, you've maxed out the PEAK volume of that track. If you aren't happy with the level, you are essentially saying you have too much dynamics in the track. "Ruin" is a strong word and if I said it, it was part of my over the top sense of humor. You want to get the RMS level louder. The best way to do that is to use compression on individual tracks so that you can knock off the peaks and bring up the overall level. Then, after that, you'll want to follow with a brickwall limiter such a Waves L2, the Voxengo Elephant or Aradaz Maximizer 5 VST Brickwall Limiter Brandon |
