Default Cubase LE + New Computer...still trouble...

Okay so im pretty used to using cubase le by now(active producer since december).
I have a Lexicon Lambda AI with the latest 2.5 drivers installed.
I messed around with my 'Latency - High stability' Bar in devices, and even at 70+ ms latency I still get some glitchy Pops in the music every so often. This is with no other programs running.

The PC I JUST (literally today) bought has 4 gigs of ram, 2.66 ghz processor, 600+ gigs hard drive. This DAW should be humming right now...but sadly Cubase wants to be difficult.

I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that I'm using Windows Vista 64 bit, and Cubase LE is in 32 bit (maybe..not sure). But I read somewhere on the Cubase forums that running cubase 32 bit on a 64 vista should work fine...just your only able to tap into 3.2 - 3.7 gigs of your ram.

Any advice or ideas anyone has would help me out greatly!

Rick

Vista is buggy with pretty much all DAWs as of now so I am not sure what to say there but 32bit software wants to run on 32bit OS. I am running Cubase LE4 on XP64 and I get occasional errors every once in a while, mostly due to plugins but not as stable as 32bit XP.
Maybe try trimming down on your running applications and go for the nostalgic XP look with no frizz on the graphics.

I found out my problem:

The interface I use supports 32 bit only.

Solution:

Dual Boot my Pc... XP 32 bit for recording...vista 64 for internet browsing and other stuff

what do you guys thinks

I personally think you should update your pc to windows xp... Trust me... the only issue you will have is the ram going from 4 gigs to 2...

I just purchased a brand new computer...

HP Phenom Quad Core PC
6gb ram, 500 hd

rock solid with vista 64 bit... I upgraded it to Xp sp2 it reads that it has 2.21 gs of ram but it support fast and rock solid... no problems running cubase 4...

I have used so far 32 tracks with Deessers and SSL Channel Strips also 14 Breverbs Plugs and it barely hiccups...

Upgrade Save ur Hair!!!

YOu were right about the 64 bit version..I thinkyou will be fine with 32 Vista.. The complaints about Vista are dying down these days with improved drivers. Make sure your LE4 is updated.

right now im using vista 32 bit...its actually kinda..slow.

i have a gadget on my desktop that shows CPU % and RAM % and how its performing.

if i open 3 windows, its up to 50% CPU! anddd... with absolutely nothing installed on my computer, its using 21% on my ram! WTF!

i have windows XP but its my brothers disks. Would I be able to install XP on my vista computer? My dad said something about just not going on the internet and avoiding the activation.

As you are finding out, Vista uses a lot of system resources. There are sites on the web that tell you how to optimize Vista for recording purposes. basically you disable everything until it looks like 3.1

Yes you can put XP as a dual boot on your machine along with Vista and that is your best bet. I think LE4 will go belly up after so many uses unless you register it..I don't think staying off the Internet will help.

I just went through this. Bought a new laptop with Vista 64bit trying to run Cubase LE4. Didn't work. Messed around with for six days. Took it back and swapped for a different PC running Vista 32bit.

Cubase runs flawlessly and I'm enjoying the new power and speed of the new PC that I never had before. Steinberg told me that LE4 will NEVER be supported by 64bit. You have to buy one of their higher end programs.

So did you do any optimizing of Vista to get LE to run flawlessly? I have clicks and pops trouble right now with LE and everything disabled. Frustration.
