Default Cubase LE MIDI help

Hello All,

I've been using Cubase LE for about two years now, and I think I have my head more or less around its capabilities.

I just bought a Tascam US-122L Interface, and thought I'd get around to exploring the use of MIDI and VSTs in Cubase LE. My prior experience with MIDI is minimal, and of course, I've hit a snag immediately.

My problem is this: I have hooked up a MIDI controller to the interface, and had no problems playing, for example, Native Instruments B4 using the keyboard.

So, I opened Cubase, added a Midi track to a song and checked the levels. Clearly, I am sending a MIDI signal, no problem. But of course I can't hear anything. Not sure how to select a voice, I consulted the .pdf help included with the program. I then went and installed all midi devices. Still not really sure what to do, I recordeded some midi (still unable to hear a signal, though several visuals assured me that it was being received). Since then, I haven't progessed much.

How do I select a voice for my midi signal and assign it to a track?

Thanks in advance!

- Jimmy

Yes the midi has no sound, just information about how to make the sound but you need a sound generator.

To use a VSTi you hit F11 and this will get you a window with slots, click on a slot and you should get a menu that shows you the installed VSTi's on your system. Choose one.
This is the VSTi window in SX3, I'm thinking you have the same thing, if not look for that in devices.

Now a midi track will have the VSTi you chose as one of the possible outputs. So choose it and you should be ready to go. There is a button on the track that will show the VSTi if there are any adjustments/program changes etc. that you can do to the VSTi.
