Default Cubase LE 4 Recording Problem ...HELP!

I am just getting started with cubase LE 4 and home recording in general. I am using a Presonus Firebox on 32-bit Windows Vista to record on cubase LE 4. The mic I am using is a condensor mic - MXL 2010 to be exact. Now, my problem is that when I try to record vocals, I get no results and can't hear anything! The mic is plugged in Correctly in the first port of the FIREBOX using a Whirlwind XLR cable and the Firebox is connected to my PC via firewire (of course). Also I get an error when opening a new project: "Samplerate could not be set. This may be due to the sampleclock being set to external sync." Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?? I am an absolute noob.

Well, hav eyou installed the Firebox drivers? If so, have you selcted said driver in the Devices MENU? DId you create input and output channels in Cubase? Also in Device Menu?

As far as microphone. Do you have phantom power and is it turned on? Can you tell if there is a signal getting to the Firebox at least?

WE really need to know a bit more about what you have tried and how far you have got so far.

Yes I Have done all of the Above, Phantom Power is on and when I speak into the mic there is a weak signal but no sound actually coming out of the speakers. Do I need Monitored Speakers to be plugged into the interface as well in order for me to hear what I record?? Or am I supposed to hear it anyway if the speakers are connected from an AUX cable coming from my receiver to my computers headphone jack??

Forget computer audio/soundcard/speakers. Your Firebox is your soundcard now..Yes headphones, powered monitors, they will all need to be hooked up to Firebox.

Well if you hope to overdub tracks yes, that's the only way to go. If you just want to hear one track then maybe you could select the Windows driver in Cubase but yeah, it's time to forget about computer sound stuff.

Brandon has many excellent articles for beginners. See the tiny Articles link hidden on the bottom of this page.

DX plugins do not work in version 4 Cubase. It doesn't have a VST version?
