hey all, been using cubase le 4 for close to a year now and have had absolutely no problems, but for the past 2 weeks or so it's started hogging my cpu. i'll open a session and it will just idle at 99-100%...doing absolutley nothing.
i've checked everywhere in the software looking for some settings but can't find jack. i turn off all my IM clients, firewall, even mysql server! anything that i can do without. even turn off my xp display so that it looks like win 95 just help things out...no dice! anyway, can't find any answers online. i'm walking on eggshells trying to not lock cubase up. driving me in-freaking-sane!! i'm using windows xp, 2.26 ghz proc, 2 gb ram. any ideas??? i'm at a loss!!! thanks! |

Hmm, sounds strange. Did you change anything in your system around the time when the problem started? Install any new plugins or VST instruments? Usually if Cubase is racking up large amounts of CPU when starting it up it's because it's trying to load some VST instrument or similar...
Best of luck, MetalGod |

thanks MetalGod, i can't think of any plug-ins i've recently installed. i've opened the vst performance meter while it's going nuts and it's barely even lighting up.
is there a way to disable all plugins? it would be interesting to see what happens. if there isn't maybe i could point the plugins dir to an empty folder so it wouldn't find any to load???? when i first boot it up it seems to work and play all the tracks just fine for about 5 mins(give or take), then i'll click to do something and it'll lock-up. i had around 200-300+ chopped up and aligned .wavs for the kick, snare and 2 oh tracks and bounced them all respectively hoping that would relieve some the work load but it didn't make a bit of difference. hmmmmm.... |

hey Electriclight, i'm using a presonus firepod or box (the little one, i get the names mixed up!) re-installing the drivers prolly couldn't hurt. didn't know that little fact about disabled tracks cause i have been disabling trying to help it out but wasn't turning off the plugins, so thanks for the tip!

What happens when you create a new project and record a few wav files? What about adding a few MIDI tracks? Does your CPU run out quickly?
Is your latency set super low? Do you use this computer for internet? If so, I'd bet that this caused the problem. The best solution is a dual boot system. More than likely, you'll have your problem solved faster this way than with any other troubleshooting. Brandon

Ahh yes. I hve been having sudden issues with Cubase SE as well. I believe my issues began when I installed the VSTs Amplitube Jimi Hendrix and Proteus. I spent years without recording issues until my Audigy card developed the dreaded Cubase crackles and pops. I purchased the same Firepod special edition and went to S ATA drives in order to ramp things up. Now I get the crackles and pops along with the the cpu running at 100% and staggering audio tracks. Adding a drum track via BFD, LM4MKII or LM7 or any midi will render the session useless.
I have Cool Edit Pro loaded (pre Adobe) and it operates fine on a reasonable amount of CPU. The problem is its inability to use VST instruments. Are SATA drives a bad idea? Is Steinberg the HP of home recording with bloated programs and criminal waste of processing power? What are your recommendations for one on a limited budget? MPDSR422 ![]() |
