I am having troubles as well. I have the Lexicon Omega Cubase LE4. i export the recorded tracks to my desktop as a wav file. that works fine. i can even play the song using nero. but when i try to burn the song to a cd it says that the song cant be added to a compilation and the file may be corrupt (something along those lines). i think i may be doing something wrong in the exporting process. Please help if you can! anyone!

You have to burn wav. file for CD as a 16 bit stereo file..Nothing else will play on CD. often Media player can play other bits rates but not a CD.

As for the inability to burn CDs, simply fire up 'goldwave' (most simple wav editors can probably do this), and 'save as' 16-bit, signed. If you see the default it's something like 16-bit IEEE or 24-bit something or other.

Anyway, I've got the same problem of the 'final' .wav file being 'quiet.'

I'm wondering about the 'normalization' feature in Cubase LE 4. If I exported a stereo mix, then re-imported it into the pool, would running 'process-normalize' on it help?

It sounds like the point about the entire mix being pushed down during a peak; that's the key.

It looks like I'm going to be spending some time trying to figure out how to best use compressors/limiters.

By the way, I really enjoy the entire 'Classic' series of VSTs.

Thanks for this thread, everyone.

The normalize feature will not change the waveform shape..So you can only raise the level of the highest peak to 0dB. So this is not a tool for increasing loudness. A limiter cuts off those peaks and allows the gain to be pushed up much farther. This makes things louder but can be a heavy-handed approach if not used judiciously. Compression is a bit more sophisticated.
