Post Cubase has lost communication with the sound card

Dear Fellow Musicians,

I am a hip hop R&B artist on a tight budget. I recently put together a home studio. After two days of working it has gone completely wacky. Using cool edit pro, the instrumental trrack first began to bleed into my vocal track. Now it has come to the point where the instrumental track just plays even if you cut it off!!! It actually is playing and peaking even if you remove it from the multitrack display!!!! Like a GHOST!!! The mic which is an audio technica 2020 (also came with condenser mic) and the mixer is an alesis multimix 8 with usb. My cool edit was given to me and my cubase le4 came with the alesis. Basically If monitoring the mic record level I get a decent sound but playing it back the pops and clicks and static make it in audible. At first I thought I had blown the mic, but then when I just sing live through the monitors it sounds fine. Its just the playback is inaudible and using cool edit you can see the track arm armed for vocals picking up all types of noise. The worst of it is that now my cubase is giving me the message "cubase has lost communication with the sound card" EVERY TIME!! I've completely taken out the computers real tek AC9 sound card and the only one in use now iIS the ALESIS's and It still wont work. HEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLPPPP PLEEEEEEEEEZE I AM TOTALLY FRUSTRATED!!!! Can someone please help me. It hurts me inside because all I want to do is my music.

It sounds like you are right on track.

Any chance that a MIDI track or some other track is on the screen that maybe is minimized? In not, that is VERY weird!

Unplug the Alesis multimix 8 from the USB connection. Restart your computer. Turn your computero off again. Then plug into a different USB slot if you have one. Then turn your computer on. It may ask to install the drivers again.

I would make sure you have the latest version of the Multimix drivers and the latest version of Cubase LE.
