Hi Hoping someone can help me - I'm very new to DAW's! I have an M-AUDIO Prokeys 88SX midi keyboard which I use to imput notes etc into Cubase 4. I have recently bought an M-Audio EX.P expression pedal. So, trying it out, I notice that when I alter the pedal position, the red bar goes up on Cubase's Transport Panel, indicating the pedal has been recognised. So I decided to try out a recording. I picked a string sound from Halion One and recorded a few bars with random expression pedal moves. Checking the expression track at the bottom of the Key Editor, I notice that the expression pedal movements have recorded accurately - however, during both the original record, and subsequent playback there seems to be no audible difference (my pedal moves were pretty dramatic). How do I set Cubase to recognise the expression pedal during realtime recording, and playback? Also, how do I change the function of the expression pedal so that it controls, say, Main Volume, or Pitch Bend? Please help! Cheers Paul |

How did you route the pedel to halion? Your recording it on its own track and that track sent to halion? That should work. Then it's not a cubase problem it's a halion problem. Does it respond to what the pedal puts out? What is the pedal putting out? CC#'s the halion manual should have midi implementation in the back. It might have to be configured to tell it what to do when receiving what cc#'s.

Expression is only recognized by patches and VI's that are programmed to do something with it. I'm pretty sure HALion One doesn't use cc11. You could convert the messages to cc7 and they will control volume for you. R. |

You can insert a MIDI effect on the channel you're using called TRANSFORMER. You just need to program the transformer to change cc11 to cc7. I'm not sure what the transformer looks like in Cubase 4, but its been in Cubase forever, so I'm pretty sure its there. Might need to look in the manual to see how you program it. Once you understand the concept, you can change it to affect any cc (or anything else for that matter) in real time on the fly. R.. |
