Default Cubase: cannot create a mixdown

i received cubase software with a tascam US144 interface that i got last year, after battling with crappy quality recordings time and time again with krystal audio, i decided to tackle cubase... it's kinda complicated in my opinion, but i finally got my first ever recording of 96khz with 24 bit... i did drums, guitar, bass and keyboard... when i was finally finished, i tried to export the mixdown to my computer and it just says..."an error occurred during the mixdown"... and nothing happens... i cannot figure out for the life of me what this could be about... any suggestions?

happy new year!

First you have to set your left and right indicators being sure not to set them backwards where the space between turns red.

Are you trying to export to 16 bit 44.1 Khz for CD? Make sure that is set as well. If you are trying to export in different bit rates I think sometimes the computer balks at that.

i was trying to export 24 bit 96khz... i thought the higher the number the closer to real sound? does a cd have to be 16 bit?...

i have the indicators set... no red in between

16 bit 44.1 Khz. That's the only wav. file that will play on a CD.

That's one big reason that the quest for higher numbers is little too esoteric. The computer calculations along the way are more accurate, but in the end you are going to be listening to 16 bit audio.

Theoretically you should be able to mixdown and save a file to anything, but I have heard of computers that get cranky saving a 96KHz. file.

Sure, I record at 24 bits and mixdown for CD to 16.

Before you do that, can you import or record soomething that is in 16 or 24 bit and try to export it?

Yeah, I had a hunch. There's a setting somewhere in windows and if it has to do with something with uncommon bit rates and sampling rates it refuses to play.
