hullo. i am a pc, and i'm having trouble. basically i'm using this emu 1212m and cubase 4, and i did have a beautifully working set up that poured out sounds i liked. yeahhh then. i messed around and broke it. basically, i re-set the patchmix dsp to factory settings, then ended up re-installing Cubase.. (if anyone knows where i can a link to find all updates as well that would be amazing! wrote some stuff after update .1 and now can't listen back!) now i get an input (plugging straight into L input only.. mixer etc on way, i'll be back for more questions then) to create a signal in patchmix, but nothing going into cubs. can somebody lay out very simply what outputs i need on my channels in the patchmix, and where this should appear in cubase so as to set up the input... whether bussing, through wav rather than asio, whatever.. just help! tanks holmes |

Patchmix is a great program but it's hard to get going with it. Go to emu.com to get the latest version. You have to create strips for ASIO coming from cubase so you can hear what cubase is doing. Then your real inputs from the outside need sends added to them to send them into cubase so you can record them. Then in cubase you have to choose the emu ASIO driver in device/deviceSetup/VSTaudio. Also you setup busses in devices/VSTconnections. You can name the strips and busses so you can keep it straight what's what. If you change patchmix you have to reset the inputs if cubase was open when you did it, or restart cubase. Once you get the basics down it's pretty straight forward, and you can do most anything you want as far as routing goes.

hey this was real helpful, though i still can't seem to actually get anything working - when i say i need a run through, sadly i do mean it all o_O currrrently, i've got this: EMU PATCHMIX DSP (INPUT 1) Wave 1/2 (INPUT 2) ASIO OUT 31/32 (INPUT 3) I/O CARD In L Send ASIO IN 1/2 - HOST (INPUT 4) I/O CARD In R Send ASIO IN 3/4 - HOST (INPUT 5) PCI CARD S/PDIF L/R (Main Inserts) test tone gen. Send Out 1/2 - I/O Card CUBASE 4 - VST CONNECTIONS Inputs - Stereo In - Audio Device = E-MU ASIO Left - I/O Card In L - 1 Right - I/O Card In L - 2 Outputs - Stereo Out - Audio Device = E-MU ASIO Left - ASIO 31/32 - 1 Right - ASIO 31/32 - 2 ok probably quite easy to see my erreure, but i still have no clue and judging by the number of multiples it'll be a long case of trial and try again... appreciated all |

So (INPUT 1),(INPUT 2), etc. are the strips in patchmix... I don't think of them as inputs because any one of them could be coming or going. That looks right, if a little awkward. I would delete that 31/32 strip and create a new one, 1/2. That's what I always use for main stereo output. Plus you can rename and drag them around so they are in the order you want. I got used to things coming from cubase on the left then my real inputs next then they system input(wave 1/2) on the right. So you have your 1212 card, it doesn't have a breakout box? Does it have a place for headphones or you just have monitors plugged into it? Does windows sounds work in it? You hear nothing? You installed the drivers and it shows up in device manager without any Yellow exclamations?

k, i'll get round to these questions bit by bit as i can but i have atleast got a recordable signal into cubase again now.. with a nice high end - audio caused - crackle for some unknown reason. but enough of that.. i do just have monitors coming out of the e-mu output, there is not a break out box to my knowledge, but i normally get the whole lot running through a yamaha 01-v so i can take it from that if necessary - and the monitors then feed from there also. but i left it at the pub. as you do. windows sound is all fine, infact midi was indelibly loud but i think i've just about sorted that out now to.. no problems with drivers on install, cool. thanks again for this, i'll check up more when i open up later |
