Default Cubase 4 LE - MIDI click lag

The audio click works great in cubase, but I find that it doesnt cut through well when I'm recording drums.

I'd like to try using some MIDI sounds (i.e. piano), but the only output option I have is MS Wavetable SW synth, but these sounds when triggered, are lagged to hell.

Any other ideas to replace the audio click or to get non-lagged MIDI sounds?

Well, first of all I have to say that the Cubase click is the most cutting sound in the world. You will not find a sound that can cut better than that. It's annoyingly cutting to most.

Have you tried double timing the click? This is very popular and allows you to reduce the level of the click significantly.

The other thing I recommend is using ear buds and maybe even those ear protection looking headphone things on top of those.

To utilize MIDI sounds, you need to set up a virtual instrument like you always do in Cubase. It will then become available in the metronome menu. The stock windows synth was not intended for anything like this.

Hmm, double timing might work... right now as is with headphones I have to crank the click up loud to the point of potential hearing damage, and my filtered earplugs are very uncomfortable to wear under the headphones. I'll see if I can snag ear mufflers from work and try your suggestion with earbuds instead. Thanks!

No I figured it wasn't, and I figured I should be able to use any of my VSTi's. So far it won't recognize anything else though (i.e. HalionOne). I've got Hypersonic 2 ordered... will try again when it arrives.

I'd say that we use it about 85% of the time.
