Hey there everyone. I am just getting into computer based recording. I have done work previously on the standalone Roland 2400 recorder but there is so much more you can do with computer based recordings that I decided to jump into it. I am waiting on the Presonus Firepod Project that comes with Cubase LE 4. My question is....My desktop computer runs Windows Vista and my laptop runs Windows XP. The desktop has 3 Gig of Ram and runs a quad processor 2.20 GHz. 32-bit Operating System, and Vista. Laptop has 1 gig of Ram and run a slower processor but has XP. If I am planning on eventually upgrading to Cubase 4, which computer would I have better luck using. Thanks and good to meet everyone..

If I remember correctly, when we were first setting up Cubase, we ran into some problems with bugs in Vista. Known issues as far as compatibility, I believe it was.
Once we switched the operating system to XP, we have had a much smoother ride. The desktop has the power to run Cubase 4 easily once you get it, it appears to me, but since it has Vista on it, you may be in for problems unless the issues have been resolved. I would check the Steinberg/Cubase forums and see where it stands. Welcome to the boards.

I always recommend XP. The desktop will give you better actual performance when you get it setup properly. You should look into setting up a dual boot system on your desktop with both Vista and XP. (It's easier than it sounds).
This would be the best compromise between cost, reliability, and features. Brandon
