I weakened and upgraded from Cubase SX3 to Cubase 4 a week or so ago. It had been working fine for a few days but I was recording a band last night and the audio just disappeared. I had to re-boot my PC to get it back. Anyone hve any simlar problems?

![]() If you decided that you want to record music, it's a good sign that you may be an idiot. ![]() In all seriousness, I definitely know the feeling. You'll get used to technical problems. The big thing is to act like you had nothing to do with it. Act like you are in control and you are in control. If you think it's bad in a home studio, you should take a look at the maintenance area of any huge studio. It's constant. Stuff breaks more in a recording studio than it does in a demolition derby. Happens all the time (the reboot thing). I usually enterntain my clients with tales of analogue technology and how when the tape was rolling most likely you won't lose your drivers in the spur of the moment ![]() From what I've read around the web there are a lot of complaints with Cubase 4 and stability, also a lot of people are pissed at them discontinuing Direct X support. I personally was at the juncture where I had to go forward with Cubase 4 or Sonar Producer 7 and I picked Sonar at this point as it offered more for the buck and it supprts 64 bit systems. Anyway - since you're on Cubase 4 my suggestion would be to do a side by side install with version 3 and use 3 as the production version until you cure the problem with 4. |

Hi adorian, Actually, it's been faultless for a couple of months now. I changed my startup and services boot up so that I only had the essentials (crap creeps into XP like a plague). I'm almost getting confident with C4! BTW, isn't that the melodic minor? |

hehe, I should've looked at the date ![]() and yes, it is the melodic minor, a pseudonym actually. |

I don't know if it has been mentioned anywhere else on this forum, but one piece of freeware that I love, and use before I edit video is called EnditAll. It basically shuts down every BS service that is running except for only what the OS needs. It frees up a lot of resources and minimized freeze ups. you can find a link to it here EndItAll 2 I hope this helps. Be gentle, I'm a newbie...

Very interesting. I've never heard of End It All. I'll give a try and see if I like it. Brandon |
