Default converting MIDI to audio in Cubase Essential: Help

I'm getting no sound when I try this. Here's what I'm doing.

Using my Korg Triton LE as an external synth. The Korg is hooked up to my Windows PC through an M-audio Midiman 1X1 interface. That works. I've recorded 4 tracks, assigned patches and everything's fine.

I want to convert each Midi track to an audio track. According to my book, (The complete idiot's guide to recording with cubase 4)
All I have to do is create a new audio track - that was done. Then record enable it. Then solo the selected MIDI track, making sure it is not armed to record. Then play the Midi track from the beginning.

I've followed those directions, but they're not working. Nothing is being recorded into the audio track - even though the MIDI track plays just fine.
Any help would be appreciated.

That's one way, but it would require you to route the audio out of a VST Instrument into the input of the track. I'm still on Cubase SX3 so I can't say for sure if that is doable or not.

It may be giving advice on recording the audio output of an external synth. This advice would be correct IF (a big IF) the audio out the synth is routed to the designated inputts of that particular audio track.

I wouldn't do it this real time way with a VST Instrument. I'd just render the output. Instead of selecting the 2bus as the output as I'd select the VST Instrument in question.

Thanks. I did finally realize that the book was talking about a VST instrument.

I routed the synth into an audio interface. Everything works fine now.
