Default Click Track in Export Mix

Well, I've scanned through about 9 pages of search results trying to find my answer to no avail. I apologize if this question has been asked 100 times already but I honestly couldn't find it...

I have Cubase LE 4. I am having a hard time figuring out how to add a click track to the final mix when I go to export the tracks I've just recorded. The other members of the band have asked that when I send my guitar riffs to them, I have the click track audible in the background. Easier said than done it seems...

Just to clarify, I have no problems listening to the click when I'm recording or playing back. Its just when I go to export the music so that I can put it on my mp3 player, the click doesn't go with it.

Any help is appreciated.

In Sonar (which is what I use), there are many ways to accomplish this and I'm sure Cubase has something similar:

- you can MUTE the click track, then Export. (assuming there's a setting that is selected that doesn't mix down muted tracks).

- turn off the click track

Thank you both for your responses. TonyB, I'm actually trying to KEEP the click track so that it ends up in my final mix when I got to export the music from the program to the Hard Drive.

Oh, I misunderstood. In Sonar, I have the click track as it's own bus. I can mute it, mix it, and/or mix it down with the other bus tracks.

See if Cubase allows you to have the click track, well, as an actual track, just like a guitar track or bass track.

Think of the click as just another instrument track. The trick is how do you make it an instrument track? Sonar let's me do it. Cubase must have a way for you to mix down the click with the entire mix.

I just found this on the Steinberg forum...apparently you can't...at least on the LE version you can't....

Steinbergusers.com: CLICK TRACK on Cubase LE

The click track is not included when you do a mixdown in Cubase. If you do your recording in Cubase LE I am not sure why you would want a .wav file of the click track. The closest thing you can do is create your own click track with a midi track playing a virtual instrument on 1/4 notes.

Wow! TonyB. Thank you for the help. I didn't even think to check that resource. Very helpful you are!

Looks like I'm gonna have to plug in my electronic metronome and record it on its own track. Too bad b/c it sounds like crap! Haha.

Thanks again.

That's another way to do it.

I recommend hanging out at the Steinberg forum too. Maybe they added that feature or will in the future. You'll also get good tips from fellow Cubase users.

I go on the Sonar forum quite abit myself.

When the damn band needs the damn click, I have to abort the standard Cubase click and setup the metronome to trigger a MIDI synth (just about anything will work...LM-7 or whatever).

I usually just set up a mono track with its inputs set to record the monitor outs.
Mute all tracks, hit record with the click running.
Sometimes I'll do this first thing. It's nice to have a visual reference of the click to work with.
