Default changing tempo in Cubase 4

Hello everyone, I'm a complete newbe in all this. I have got Cubase 4 and I want to change the tempo of a guitar track I have recorded. I have tried to follow all the You Tube videos on the subject, but it's not working.
I have tried altering the fixed tempo, that didn't work, so then I opened the tempo track, changed from fixed tempo to track, altered the tempo on that, but that didn't work. It keeps playing back at the same speed whatever I do. I know I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what. Can anyone help me please? Thank you.

Toggle that musical note icon in the inspector window to the clock. I think.........

Try checking the Musical Mode box in the audio pool. Got that to work here. I don't ever have the need to change tempo. Hopefully someone else will chime in who knows more.

    Hi Jimmy,
Yes I did that. Whatever I click seems to make no difference. According to the tempo, both fixed and and track, it's changed, but nevertheless, it plays back at the same speed.

So you did check the 'Musical Mode' box in the pool for the audio file you want to change tempo on? Ctrl+P and checking the box works for me. Musical Mode must be selected in the pool as well as on the channel it seems. Tho I am on C6.

Nothing works Jimmy. Whatever I click, whatever I do, it plays back at the same speed. I used to be able to do this easily on an old tape mixing desk years ago. You would think in this digital age it would be easier. I wonder if there is something wrong with the software. It was a free download that I thought I would try. But I'm loathe to pay out good money if it doesn't do what I want.

I'll bet the 'free' download is the problem. Besides, I am assuming you are not able to get the software updates for it either (C4 needed them). It works fine here on C5.

Download a demo of 5 (if still available) or 6 (30 day fully functional). You will be able to open your C4 project in it.

    Good luck!

Well, I was thinking of getting elements 6. I don't mind paying for it if it works. Which is why I tried the free download first. At least if that doesn't work it hasn't cost me anything.
