Post Changing Cubase Save default path? - boring but needed

It's no fun turning on your computer to find that ALL of your saved audio and midi files are completely GONE! This happend yesterday.

Turns out that since I use my wife's laptop work computer to run Cubase LE 4, all the default save locations that I specified to be under My Documents, are actually under her work wireless access system. So when she went to work the other day, turned on the computer, for some reason her work system TOOK MY FILES. This is a long interductory story, but to finish, I can get the files back.

Bottom line: Now I want to change the default save locations for where Cubase saves files, etc. I think this was set up during installation, and I've been all over that program, and into the system files in window looking how to change this, but have found nothing!

Any ideas to fix this, or do I have to re-install (dreaded!).

Everytime you begin a new project Cubase LE4 asks you to specify where to store the files. Set up a new project and make all preferences the way you want. Then save it as a template and you'll automatically have everything ready. My Documents is not a great place for your music files. Make a new folder on root directory.

Thanks Electriclight,

I ended up moving all the files to a desktop directory (it took several trips to my wife's work to get everything transfered). I see now that as you mentioned, you specify locations when you set up any given project...and this is not just a one time preference...unless you keep using the same setup file. (which I was).
