Can't mixdown MIDI

Whenever I try to mixdown an audio recording with a midi drum beat there is this horrible, LOUD, static, feedback, kind of sound. I've isolated the problem to do with the midi as it mixes tracks down fine without midi being involved. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what is going on? I used to run Nuendo 3 and never had these problems. Now with Cubase 5 Essential I can't mixdown any of my projects that have midi involved.

Well midi isn't the problem.

You don't say what is making the sound.

If it's an external sound module/keyboard it has to be turned into audio first before you can do a mixdown.

If it's a VSTi then it should work. Try turning it into audio by itself (import back into cubase) and see if that works. If it's a free plug in I would suspect the plug in itself.
Something wrong somewhere, have to do some trouble shooting, trying different things.

Also try the real time checkbox.
