Default Audio mixdown and midi?

I have created my first recording of midi and audio. Previous to this i have been just recording audio tracks. Before i used to use the "Audio mixdown" function within cubase sx3. Now that i have midi also (using "the grand" midi effect) it seems to take like over 1 hour to use the audio mixdown function? Am i doing something wrong?

It seems excessive to me. How long is the track? Are the left and right locators correctly set? How powerful is your computer?

Everything is set correct, this only seems to have taken longer since using midi instruments

I can bounce down a 4 minute song with ten or more intensive VSTi's in under 30 seconds. What sample rate and bit depth are you using? How long are your songs? How powerful is your computer?

You've got a glitch somewhere. If you can playback your audio real time, you should be able to mix real time. I think this alone rules out the computer speed.

Try restarting your computer and mixing it down again. If that doesn't work, try using a different instrument just for test purposes. I've got a feeling it will mixing down in a 1 minute or 2.

This is a glitch. In fact, the real solution probably involves simply pressing F11 and grabbing a different instance of that same instrument and sending your piano parts to that.

Thumbs up Re: New & Introduction

I've been reading the site articles for several months because I've wanted to use recording to improve original material. The site has been helpful. For Xmas 07 my 3 children gave me a Presonus Firestudio with 8 channels and Cubase LE4. So I rushed out the next day and bought as large a computer as I could afford. Then it was off to MusiciansFriend for some AKG condensor mics to replace my old stage mikes.

Years ago I did some studio recording with my band at the time. Now I'm in awe at how much there is to learn. In the last month I've used the equipment almost on a full time basis (since I'm retired). My aim (or pipe dream) is to again play gigs as a solo or duo act and sometimes use backing tracts.

Keep up the good work at recording review. I've greatly appreciated what I've read. THANKS to ALL.

In all seriousness, it's probably the same amount of info a doctor has to learn. Recording just doesn't save lives or pay any good.
