Default AI and LE 4 - Should I load both?

Hi everyone. I'm new here. I bought a presonus with an LE 4 and a Yamaha MO8 with an A1 4.

I'm planning to start a music project in a few weeks and was wondering if I should download both versions of Cubase, or if there will be compatability issues.

The A1 interface is designed to work with Yamaha Keyboards, so there are some specific tools.

1) I've never done digital recording, and was wondering if there will be problems if I have both on my system?

2) Also, can I record synth on the AI and then bounce it to the LE 4 when I want to do vocals.

3) Will both Cube Based systems work with the synth and the presonus???

I'm using an XP OS, and have 4 gigs of Ram.

AI is basically LE. I think they have stopped making AI and in its place they put out LE. I personally use LE 4 and love it. I dont think you need to worry about the MO8 not working with LE. I doubt that yamaha would make a product to specifically work with only one version of software anyway. Plus AI and LE are not full functional programs they are bundled with hardware as a bonus. So there is no reason that the MO8 would have problems with LE that it wouldnt with AI.

Now my best suggestion would be going with LE since your interface came with that. I bought a Lexicon Omega and it came with LE but i wanted to use sonar. But i had too many latency problems that i could never fix so i tried it with LE and have never had a latency problem out of it. So if it was me I would use LE.

You could try both and see what you like better, but i dont think it would be any easier or better using both.

Thanks so much for your reply. I saw a youtube tutorial for the Yamaha SX. It was very brief, but showed how that Cubase A1 was designed to work with the Yamaha so that you could contol the keyboard Via the Cubase, and the Cubase via the Keyboard? Perhaps I misunderstood what I was seeing. It could be what those additional downloads are for???

I'm excited and overwhelmed at the same time. I get a bit overwhelmed trying to follow the technical learning curve.

AI is a Yamaha version (Yamaha OWNS Steinberg which makes Cubase). It is very very similar to LE4 but has a few more features. You should definitely load the AI4 - no need for the LE4.

I would vote for AI also.

Thanks for the heads up. But this also brings up the other part of the question.

Will I be able to use the presonus recording interface also with the A1???

I also saw another instructional video on youtube. It seems that this automatic Yamaha-A1 interface works out of the box with the 88 key version of the Motif XS- using the firewire. It doesn't work the same with the USB in the other keyboards???

I am pretty sure that anything with ASIO drivers should work with the AI4.

That's a comfort to know. I bought a Presonus FP 10 and am excited to use it. I'd rather load one version of Cubase, but wondered if there would be anything lost?

The LE 4 comes with 2 gigs of drums I'd like to check out. Perhaps the A1 comes with the same. I have to check it out.

This world is all new to me. That includes the computer jargon, the recording jargon, and even figuring out how to access the Yamaha Keyboard. It's like taking a college course.

That's news to me, where did you see that?

I haven't downloaded the software yet. It's on my FP 10 box. It may be that these are add-ons to the LE 4??? It mentions 2 gigs of drums and some sound loops.

The Yamaha box- I still haven't taken out my keyboard, also indicates there are additional keyboard sounds for the A1- using the keyboard as a controller.

That's why I was wondering if I should use both, and if that would cause a problem. Maybe one has samples the other doesn't.

I plan to record accoustic and electric guitar and vocals and other things having nothing to do with the keyboard, so I want to get the most out of the software if possible.
