I think there is such a dramatic difference in noise comming from a cranked tube amp through a real mic interacting with a room compared to the way the program just simulates noise. Noise is a bad thing made good. Fake noise is just...haha awful to my ears. Like i said though, there are plenty of ways to overcome it.

Interesting note, for those who are not completly satisfied with their bass punchiness, for whatever reason, certainly look into the guitar rig bass programs to add onto a layered track. Even with the best rigs i get in, we sometimes add that second layer for certain sections to punch through. I wont tell you any specifics because every one likes something different (and off the top of my head i dont remember which preset we use and how we tweak it afterwards) but just so you know.

Tremendous advice, dude! I 100% agree on layering with guitar simulations / reamping / whatever to help a bass sit in a mix.
