yeah i've got an EB-0 and I will say go for something with two pick ups becuase i wish i had gone for the EB-3.I miss having the range from two pickups, as a player i think it's worth any extra money. Best advice is go into the shop and have ago. Get them to show you both active and passive basses but make sure you're comfortable on the one you choose. |

Look into Ocean basses. As long as I have been playing ( Vulcans can get pretty old, you know ), the two Ocean basses I have played on have been the finest in the price range that I have come across. Period. They aren't entry level in price, but they are high end in playability and sonics, in my book. Try and get one now before too many others realize what they have and the price goes through the roof.

What's your budget? Below $500 there's not that much thats amazing. Between $500-$1000 there's tons of choice. Your gear should match your skill, and your entire signal chain should match in quality. Good basses are easier to play, easier to learn on, and more FUN to play! Fender P-Bass or Jazz Bass, even low end ones will get you good tones for recording. Check out the Aerodyne bass, good quality and not too expensive really. Alternately an Ibanez with active pickups, very versatile and comfortable to play basses. I've got a SR-500 and I can tackle any style of music, not that I can play bass in any style of music ![]() Good luck! |

I play a Peavey Cirrus which may be too expensive ($1600) for many of you but having tried dozens of basses, the Cirrus is simply the best bass under $4000 where you start getting into the serious high-end stuff. With neck through design, active pickups, and low-mid-high controls, it plays like a dream, sustains forever and never slips out of tune. The sound people I work with say they have never seen a bass with such even frequency response. The Ibanez basses are fine for gigging but I wouldn't use one for recording.

Here's my 2-cents worth ... there are 2 neck types ... Long scale ( 34") and short scale ( 30 " ), as a general rule the longer scale necks have a more defined, bolder sound ... the shorted scale necks have a muddy sound ... however if you find that playing a short scale neck is good for you .... go for it
