Default Good Cheapish Bass

So as I said before in my other thread I'm wanting a new bass for Christmas. I seeked some advice about upgrading my current bass from the local music shops (I went to a few towns as I only live in a smallish town). I have about AU$500 to spend (You convert that). As I said before I play every style of music (pretty much) and want a bass that can cover most styles. Funk and Metal are my main two genres so any suggestions on a good bass around that price would be appreciated. Only 23 days to go. Also... (God I'm demanding) A link to the bass would be fantastic.

Try the Ibanez Soundgear Srx2 Ex1. I have other higher end basses (78 Fender J-bass, 81 Kramer XL 24) And this one compliments them quite well. I also am into the same genres you are. I've never regretted buying this bass and I've had it for about a year and a half. I think it's available for around US$350 w/o a hard shell case. So maybe there's room to buy a decent case within your budget. This bass is feature packed so you will get a lot of bang (or should I say boom) for your buck.

I second the ibanez soundgear- they sound great, are very well built, and$500au will buy you one of the nice models (as opposed to the cheaper, which don't have body/neck binding and multi-ply necks).

it could be worth checking out a mexican made fender. just make sure you get a setup and maintain it.

Very nice choice. I was considering a Spector before I bought the SGR bass. It was a tight race between the Spector, Schector and the Soundgear. What was the price for the bass?

AU$700, second hand. She's been well loved though. I'll post some pictures later... I need to shrink them and that's a lot of effort...>.>

I'll bet it feels good to have a quality bass to jam with! Can't wait to see the photo's. Your patience paid off and although you spent more than you originally wanted, it is a great investment. Happy Jamming!
