I have two GK's and like Brandon, a couple of older Marshalls that I use. I'll pipe them to a Fender 4x12.. miced with either a 421 or an RE20.... BUT I usually end up plugging direct into a Sansamp RBI which is way faster and better in some instances. Sometimes I'll do both but I have to be in an especially great mood that day! It also sounds good run directly through the API but will needs gobs of eq which I try to avoid like the plague. I have a Fender Jazz w/ Bartollini's and a Peavey T40... don't laugh at the Peavey.. it's cool... but heavy...

Hey Andy,

Well I use an Ibanez TRB (changed the pick ups to get a real trebly sound - downside is unwanted noise & interference in higher frequencies).
I am a big fan of passive and active DIs as they usually get rid of most interferences.
I dunno who mentioned a Roland amp but I used to have one and the bass is excellent out of them especially when loud and ****.
I also use loads of guitar fx (Vamp + Boss distortion + Boss delay & Ibanez phaser).
I think the guitar fx are as good as the bass ones and usually cheaper + if you play in a band you may realise that the guy playing the 6 strings is not using all is fx - how about borrowing and try?

On my mega producing project I'm in the middle of, I've split bass from a Sansamp DI into the yellow Boss overdrive pedal so I have a clean track and an overdriven track. It's working out VERY well!

That's very much similar to the way Tim Commerford of Rage Against the Machine/Audioslave plays live. Running through a two amp set up. One clean and one overdriven using his own hand built distortion pedal. That guy has got great tone.

I've had several bass players bug me about trying to nail the Rage Against The Machine sound.

Yeah. He sounds a million times better in Audioslave, though. The guy puts a lot of work into his sound. From buliding his own effects, winding his own pickup coils, building speaker cabs, ect. It's understandable why someone would want to sound like him.

Wow! That's the reason he is so successful. He's obsessed with his instrument. I respect that.
