totally agree w/ peavey stuff being best bang for the buck....solid gear...good price

sloom, i had one of those old(guild/hartke) cabs as well..open back, and i swear it had a rumpled cone also!
ended up using a pair of those speakers in a beefed-up peavey 1820 cabinet i sometimes use in bi-amp scenarios...1-18" black widow +the 2 guild/hartke aluminum guys...throw the eden 4X10 on top....and shit starts gettin' good!!
of course, that tends to be a bit of overkill when it comes to your average club-gig...the eden handles most stuff by itself...

Yeah that's a stack alright. Probably sounded great- would be great for reggae. That old Hartke stuff was really good I thought, had a quality I dug a lot. If I could find another I might snick it up.

I still say Peavey offers best bang-for-buck though, esp for a first amp.
agreed. peavey does give you alot for the money. very under rated stuff.

Hi man, I recently had the same exact problem. Had a small practice Yamaha amp and felt the urge to give a step up. After many (MANY) amp testing I fell in love with a Hartke 4.5 x 10 XL cabinet with a Hartke 4000 amp head. I mostly do slapping and blues and the amp head gave me the huge flexibility to get any sound out of the 4, 10 inch beautiful aluminum cone speakers.

I spend around 550 USD on both of them, but Harke has many models (combos) that are around your budget. I strongly recommend you to check them out.

I had heard many many bad comments about the brand, but until i checked it out i found out they are just beautiful.

P.S: check out on youtube for Victor Wooten's booth sessions on hartke on NAMM '09, he just recently switched to the brand and he just loved it. Hoped I helped in something.

+1 on the Hartke combos. I sat in with a country band in a med-sized room, and they had a little Hartke 10 Kickback combo. Tiny. It projected all the way to the back of the club easily. Very present sound, a real surprise. So there you go.
