I have just read a few threads on cab selection but none of them really had the answer i was after. I want to start recording my bass lines live insted of with a VST. Only 4 studio use. I palyed in a band for many years and our bass player had a great sound using a Jands PA amp and a 4 x 12 cab but that is way too much 4 my needs. I have a Emenience "Apollo 80" amp which is an Australian built 80W tube amp built in the late 70's. The amp was built as a dual purpose amp with inputs for Guitar or Bass. I dont record anything too heavy and need a cab that will produce a nice strong tone at low volumes. I though a single 15" would be the go just because of the volume of air they move but will that still work at low volume. Also does any one have any cab designs as i will be consturcting the unit from scratch. By the way im no bass guru but i go ok for what i want to record, you just cant get the feel with a VST. Thanks in Advance to all

Sorry slip of the tounge the amp i have is an Eminar not Eminence (been looking at speakers on the net) i also have a 2 x 12 celestion box from my band days that i used for guitar but one cone is torn and needs replacing so i havent been able to see if they go ok for the bass. Probably not the go but since they are mid range speakers (G12H 30W i think)

That's WAY too broad of a question. Are we going for Victor Wooten or Lemmy? Brandon |

Not sure what you are on about Brandon (Victor Wooten or Lemmy????). I thought i was being pretty clear with the question but here goes again. Will i get a fuller bass tone with a single 15" bass speaker cabinet or with a 4 x 10" cabinent at low volumes for recording pruposes. Thats about as specific as i can get. What do other bass players use in a recording situation?

OK i have just done a search on Wooten and Lemmy (excuse my ignorance for not knowing who they are, as i said earlier im not a full time bass player), not really after either of those sounds i dont much go for slap of that heavy sound. The best sound that would be close to what i want would be Graham Maby (Joe Jackson's bass player) Hope this makes thing a bit clearer for all.

Is there a compelling reason not to DI? Recording live in anything but a pretty bug, well-treated room and a fairly expensive mic or two won't return a very good result. DI: becasue it's easy and it works. Love the amp? Take the Preamp Out signal and run it through a transformer or DI box.

Funny how the obvious is so apparent when someone else points it out. Cheers your right DI is the go and will save me the hassle and expence of building a speaker box. Thanks for your help.
