Lightbulb What is your fav Midi Composition software?

I have used FLStudio for a very long time to make electronic music (trance, hip hop, etc.) however I find it not the best option for me when making pop balads... I am trying out different programs such as Nuendo, ProTools and Sonar and I am finding that they are great for mixing but not as quick in the composing area as is FLStudio. I wanted to know what do you guys consider the best in composing that will provide great ease, flexibility and mixing. I've heard a lot of people say Logic is the best however I have Windows XP. Also.. what do the "big" producers out there use? Are they all married to Pro Tools?

The software that I love to use for MIDI tracking purposes is "Anvil Studio". It is capable of anything that all-inclusive DAW software can do. However, it's much easier to use IMHO...hand's down! It's also free and very simple to use for quick (or in-depth) recording and editing of MIDI. Plus, there are upgrades that you can purchase that enhance the overall features, including on the fly tempo changes, real-time modulation and pitch bending, and even sheet music/TAB printing to name a few. The upgrades are pretty cheap too. I personally paid $50 for the combo accessory pack, which pretty much unlocks all the advanced editing tools. The $50 is nothing for the value of this program that many people have never even heard of. I love its straight-forward interface. One can use it to edit/write or record MIDI using a musical staff, a piano roll, and even a guitar neck. Another plus, the program is relatively small, so it's any easy download, and once you decide to purchase any of the upgrades or bundle packs, you can update them for the rest of your life for free. I love it! That's my two pair.

Go here to check it out.

Good luck,

Metaltyme

The "trying out" part is the key word here. I think the sequencer in Cubase is great. However, it will never get great in trial mode. You've got to wine it and dine it for a couple of dates first.

I think too many people expect their recording software to put out on the first date. If girls or recording software put out on the first date, they usually aren't the ones you want to marry. You get the idea.

I'm curious why if you are so happy with FL Studio you would even bother looking elsewhere.

i must say the same i use fl studio myself and never had any hang ups. the thing about fl studio is there is so much you can do and they continue to improve and add. you just have to experiment deeper i have yet to meet someone who knows everything of what that program is capable of doing good thing is the manual is in the program like sonar

I used to use logic for Windows, Cubase now. You can do anything in Cubase for sure.

Logic was pretty neat in what it could do real time like chopping up parts and changing quantize etc.

I use Band in a Box to generate content to manipulate in Cubase, works well.

SONAR works great for me .... I am able to be super-productive with the MIDI tools and capabilities in it, and I do LOTS of MIDI recording - basically record everything I can MIDI first.
