Question Recording Roland TD-6V into Pro Tools via midi - HELP!!

Hey guys,

I'm new to this site and am desperately seeking some help! I have a digidesign 002 rack with Pro Tools 7 and am trying to record my Roland TD-6v drum kit into Pro Tools via midi. I am able to create an instrument track and then record the midi performance from my kit however when I play back the recording I can not hear any audio! I realise that midi is just data and that unless you connect it to an instrument to trigger audio there will be no sound. Therefore can someone please tell me how to send a signal out of Pro Tools back to my Roland TD-6V module and get the sounds from that? I have turned 'local control' off in my module (as instructed in the manual) and have turned 'midi thru' on in pro tools. really not sure where to go from here!? I am fairly new with midi hence why I am probably having this problem.

Thanks,

Rashik

You would not want to send MiDI back out from pro tools (unless you were really bored) if you buy an application of Superior drummer and user the sequenced MIDI data to trigger the sounds in Superior drummer you will be much happier!!! There is a learn mode in Superior Drummer so you don't need to spend 10 years trying to MIDI remap the module to match the software samples!!! this is a good thing cause I found out the hard way that Roland's MIDI note numbers are a full octave off ( C#3 is C#4) The sounds in the TD_6 or the TD_20 for that matter pale in comparison to the sounds in superior drummer.. believe me I have them both. I love my V drums but for 6000 you would think they could load the drum module with an 80G hard drive and fill it with uncompressed waves of the original samples??? Good luck

Thanks for your reply. Yeah I am intending on eventually purchasing ezy drummer or superior drummer however I still would really like to figure out how to record the sounds coming from my TD-6V module via midi. Does anyone else know what the next steps would be?

I'm not a Pro Tools user so I'm of limited help here, but I can explain the concept.

In Cubase you simply route the MIDI track to the MIDI output of the audio interface and then plug that MIDI out to the MIDI in of the external synth (your Roland box).
