Well, if your plan was to program drums (ie create new MIDI events vs. using grooves built-in as in Addictive, EZ and KitCore) then yes GB is pretty limited. Using something with a really full-featured MIDI editor and quantization options is the best way to go as you found with Logic.

I really like the way Superior Drummer sounds on metal/rock songs. It simulates amazin' the rock felling and have a great sound control with efx, etc.

Hi all, Old thread I know, but maybe someone will find it useful..

In the end I ended up with EZDrummer, Adictive Drums and Kit Core Deluxe installed on my Cubase PC. Iv had all three for a few months now and have used them separately, and together.

Mostly, I just use Kit Core, the GUI is much lighter, not near as cool as the others, but is actually faster to find what I want, in the way of sounds and patterns. The amount of useful sounds and patterns, at such a low price, is amazing and expansion packs are cheap.

I thought Id want the built in "tweakability" of addictive drums, but in reality, I just send everything to its own audio channel and do all my tweaking there.

you can use all of them together, in the same project with out issues. Though it seems that EZDrummer patters are NOT 100% General MIDI so you have to some mapping, when using patterns from the other programs,

Hope this helps.

When you start SP 2.0 you can have it load so it does mono tracks for each drum part. I think i had 32 tracks once. (more than i needed for sure) So i do 16 stereo tracks instead, Sounds great. I run Sonar and incert it as a soft syth.

For Sonar users there are useful maps at cakewalk.com. I used one of those to make a hybrid map that puts general midi drum patches on the notes EZDrummer doesn't use.

It does a few different things.. its basically like a Drum Module (like bfd or superior) but with the addition of modeled drummers and styles also (a drumming brain). You set it to play a kit (either a Jamstix kit, or a seperate VSTI like superior) and then you tell it what style and drummer model to use, then start your host and will just start jamming. You still have a high level of control over the parts if you want, and can tweak the brain settings for different tendencies.. but it will just jam away for you. In my experience its a pretty fun tool, and have used it sparingly to make drum lines.. There is a bit of a learning curve because there is several ways to use it and its tough to find the best way to fit it into your workflow. Its inexpensive compared to BFD2 or Superior2. I think the samples are pretty good but not as good as BFD2 or Sup2.. There is a bunch of inexpensive expansions and Ive heard really good results from the Jamstix samples.

It can also jam along to your guitar (or any audio) or midi instrument. I have not used it in this way, so I can't really explain the details.

Hello guys,

for those who like to check out things first hand:

A downloadable KIT A demo was added to our website: On MIXOSAURUS KIT A Demo Page you can request a download link to the 2.6 GB zipped demo archive which contains fully usable instrument patches of KIT A's Light Ride Cymbal and the 10" Tom.
All articulations of these two instruments and all mic tracks are available in the demo, with the only limitations being that it uses only 2 alternating samples (the full product offers 7) - and that the rest of the kit isn't there ;-).

(FYI: For hosting/licensing reasons, the archive does not contain Native Instruments' KONTAKT PLAYER software, however you'll find a link to NI's pages so you will have no trouble getting it from them directly - it's a free download)

Comments and/or suggestions all very welcome!

kindest regards,
Uwe

i think some kits in EZdrummer (such as the yamaha birch kit) are fine if u do some sort of good mix and add some plugins.
