Default Realistic Drum Samples

Check out the following when looking for realistic drums for your midi sequencing needs.? I have no idea what format these are so you'll have to figure that one out for yourself. I'm just trying to keep track of when I hear drum samples that I wouldn't mind owning.

Toontrack
Superior Drummer 2.0, DFH Superior, and EZ Drummer. All of these are excellent. DFH Superior is older, uses more RAM, does not include the powerful mixer thinging that Superior Drummer 2.0 does and has more of a midrangy sound to it like you'd hear on Counting Crows "Mr. Jones".

Fxpansion.com
BFD2 has some of the smoothest sounding cymbals in the universe with great, thick drum sounds. Tonally, these rest somewhere in between Superior Drummer 2.0 and DFH Superior in tone.

Fxpansion has a number of expansion packs that dramatically improve the flexibility of the series.

Steven Slate Drum Samples
You'll need Kontakt to play these, but for huge, powerful rock drums I don't think it gets any better. These samples are more straight forward. You don't get control over bleed, ambiance, and things like that but I can't say I care. When mega brute, knock a hole in your skull drums are required, this is the way to go!

I own the Steven Slate Drum Samples and love them. Having these and Superior Drummer 2.0 handles all my rock needs.

Addictive Drums
Battery 3
Reason Refills
Larry Seyer
StormDrum
KitCore Deluxe

I'm not familiar with JAMSTIX. A drum "brain" doesn't sound like drum samples. It sounds like a triggering device. Am I wrong?

Yes, its a trigger device that works with drum vsti's.(or its own internal drum sounds).
Its very difficult to get it to play something simple, but with 'loads of time' it can be done. Ive wasted days on Jamstix, trying to get the perfect drum take. Its cool.

- You can drum 'jam' with an audio signal by using a pluggin called audiom8 (comes with jamstix)
- You can select through all existing styles and set up a custom freejam or use a built in sequencer to structure your drum track.!!!

Its amazing sounding, especially using BFD with it, but it is a time wasting and frustrating, since the built in sequencer is difficult to learn and many features need to be fixed and improved.

Its definetely buying, if you dont record drums, but need real sounding drums!

Wow! Wasted days on it! That sounds awesome!!!! :P

I'm being sarcastic, here.

I'll take a look into it. I've spent days in the sequencer getting drums right in DFH Superior, but I wouldn't call that time wasted. Although, I'm about to say screw it and lay down some cash for an electronic kit just to save time.

It is time wasted if you never finished the track and deleted it!!

No, its very useful software: Especially for a 1 man band like me. So is Band in a box!!

Its all a learning curve!

One word: EzDrummer. Simply amazing, sounds great and very easy to use. Only downside is sloooow load time.
Worth checking out, http://www.ezdrummer.com/prodinfo_ezd.asp

EZ is cool IF you need their pre-defined patterns - mostly rock... drums are a little over processed for my taste... really good for modern pop... Jamstix is incredible IF you understand drumming, can navigate the interface, and don't need anything that really "pushes" the beat. Their expansion packs are good but not near as good as TT's stuff - their honorable mention is Brush Pack... which works well, although I've ditched in favor of TT's and re-done the drums several times... DFHS is excellent. drummers love it... C&V - "I" love it!

I like when people are happy and when people want to pay me. Personally I like C&V the best as far as sound... that usually means me programming/playing on keys or e-kit.... whatever gets the job done....

MUCH easier than constantly dealing with drummers and drum kits....
