Default real time? confused..

hi. i want to know how to record my midi in real time. as in, i KNOW i can put the click track on, press record and record for twenty minutes... what i would like to know, is how to keep the adjustments i make while recording it to stay after done recording. i adjust the the pan, lfo rate/amount, etc, but when i'm done recording it hasnt recorded any of that, but just the raw sound from pressing the keys...

i am going to put sm57s to my studio monitors if i have to, but that is super lame, there has to be a way. thanks for the help.

It might help if we knew exactly what you are trying to record

Ya, MIDI isn't music !! It's just the keyboard performance. So, you have to get that straight in your head.

It looks as if you are playing with a VSTi synth and that's not MIDI. It's a sound generator controlled by MIDI. You have to treat that as AUDIO and record that.

With today's software, look for a lock (padlock ICON) on the MIDI track. That makes a temp wav file of the audio.

Several issues, as mentioned.

I might add, how do you know it's not being recorded? check that, open the track in list view, you should see pan, and other cc's you sending.

If your sending it, it's recording it, unless you have a filter setup in the options to disregard it. How do you know if your sending it? You should download midi-ox so you can see what midi your putting out in real time.

Then you have to make sure whatever your sending it to will accept it or has something turned off or don't accept those messages etc.

true, tacman, i see the changes in value when i use the wheels to distort sound/pitch, etc... but when i play it back theres' no change in sound.. just however the parameters are set for currently depicts the sound.

It sounds like they are being filtered.

Or the VST doesn't know what a mod wheel is.
