Default Re: Problems using external computer as MIDI synth

Hey man, thanks a million! That does sound interesting. I will get MidiOX and try this out. Ah, would be great if this works!
And yes, I was using XGEdit to control the card, so that's most likely the cause of the problem.

Once again, many thanks!

Cheers,
MetalGod

Talking Re: Problems using external computer as MIDI synth

So, I finially got round to trying this out (it's been a busy few months I can tell you), and it works great! Just installed MixiOx, started it and...it worked! No fuss, no long nights, just works - and that's a rare thing!

PeeBee I owe you one!

Default Calling MIDIOX & MIDI Yoke experts... help! :)

Dear MIDIOX & MIDI Yoke experts:

Being somewhat confused using MidiOX and MidiYoke I'm in need of your invaluable advice:
It says: "MIDI YOKE connects any MIDI App output to any other App input". That sounds so simple that I cannot work it out...
How exactly should I adjust MidiOX and MidiYoke, if I would like to use two or more Apps at the same time? I have got the following MIDI scenario:
MIDIOX and all other Apps, such as Live-Styler, Sonar, Cubase etc, have the following MIDI IN/OUT details:

Inputs:
SB-Audigy4 MIDI I/O
IN from MIDI YOKE: 1
IN from MIDI YOKE: 2
IN from MIDI YOKE: 3
IN from MIDI YOKE: 4
IN from MIDI YOKE: 5
IN from MIDI YOKE: 6
IN from MIDI YOKE: 7
IN from MIDI YOKE: 8

Outputs:
SB-Audigy4 MIDI IO
SB-Audigy4 SF2 Loader
Yamaha XG SoftSynth
Roland VSC
Out to MIDI YOKE: 1
Out to MIDI YOKE: 2
Out to MIDI YOKE: 3
Out to MIDI YOKE: 4
Out to MIDI YOKE: 5
Out to MIDI YOKE: 6
Out to MIDI YOKE: 7
Out to MIDI YOKE: 8

Question: How are the MIDIOX & MIDI Yoke adjustment for two MIDI Apps (A & B), running at the same time:
Adjustment in MIDIOX:
Adjustment in MIDI App A:
Adjustment in MIDI App B:

Question: How are the MIDIOX & MIDI Yoke adjustment for three MIDI Apps (A, B, C), running at the same time:
Adjustment in MIDIOX:
Adjustment in MIDI App A:
Adjustment in MIDI App B:
Adjustment in MIDI App C:

Knowing that, that would be of great help. Thanking you in advance!
Kind Regards, jjj the last condor from the Chilean Andes.

Default Re: Problems using external computer as MIDI synth

I haven't seen this thread before, just reading though some.

My approach:

Hook up the card like it was an external keyboard. If you send it midi signals it will sound. You send it patch changes it will change the voice. End of story.

You could run XGedit on either machine to pick your voices.

Am I wrong?

I still have an XG1000 card around here but it's not in a computer. Used to be my only card for midi and audio. Great card.

Not totally wrong, you could just set the card as the default MIDI device in windows control panel and you'd have full access to all voices on one of the synths (but only one, and with the SW1000XG having three how would you target the other two with only 16 channels available at your end, and no way to route them to synths 2 or 3?) and as long as all you did was send NRPN, sysex and patch/program data to it things would be fine, but it's once you bring XGEdit into the equation that things get messed up, since it re-routes all incoming MIDI traffic via a MIDI cable to one channel/voice no matter how you set it up, and no longer lets you use the card as an externally controlled multi-timbral synth, but since XG card drivers are multi-client you can get around the problem by mapping ports using MIDI-OX, and this gives you full multi-timbrality, access to all three synths and full control over all voices again.

MetalGod - glad to have been able to help
