Default Is it possible to load samples via SysEx?

I've got an older Yamaha SU10 sampler. I really like it for a lot of reasons, but its achilles heel is the way you have to load samples into it... You've got to hit "record" on the sampler, hit "play" on the computer, then hit "stop," then you've got to edit out any sort of extra space that may have been recorded as well...

Since I can use SysEx to dump the samples in the machine, it would make sense that I could use it to load samples *into* it, no?

Does anyone know of a tool for doing so? I'm generally in OSX, but I can fire up Windows or Linux if I need to.

No you can't. SYSEX is not audio, its MIDI instructions.

Ya, I would check the manual to see if there are any applicable commands. But generally, RB is correct. I don't know how they made the MIDI transition to sample technology. I thought there are MIDI keyboards that use samples and can transfer user sample banks - somehow. My only experience is patch(not sample) instructions.

Default Re: Is it possible to load samples via SysEx?

There are some brands that do OS updates using midi. And sysex is whatever they want to make up, unique to that product, so theoretically possible, not to load the samples through sysex but to command the device to load the default sample set or whatever through sysex, but I've never seen it done.
