Noob Help: Sampler only plays Piano, no VST

Hello all,

Long time reader, first time poster. I can't get any sounds other than a standard MIDI Piano sound to come out of the sampler that's required to use for my VSTs. I've played around with the Audio Setup in the program but most of the time there's no sound, so I have to return to the one configuration, in pictures below, that only allows me to hear standard MIDI piano. I think it might be with the MIDI In/Out and that MS GS Wavetable Synth. I dunno. Has anybody experienced anything similar?

I'm only using a mouse with the sampler for the moment, so I can troubleshoot this issue before I plug in a MIDI keyboard. That's another beast of a troubleshooting issue in itself as well.

In one of the pics below you'll see there's no Input under the MIDI tab, but when I click around on the keyboard in the sampler, it produces that piano sound in-pitch with what one would expect from a regular piano, up and down the keys. I dunno, I don't get it.

I'm learning, so I'm hoping if I can work through this this morning, I'll reach one of those great "A-HA, so that was it!" moments

Turn the Wavetable GS Synth to OFF on the MIDI tab.
Change the output (in Routing) to a non-digital output... presumably output 1-2 or headphones or speakers or something like that - whatever your headphones or speakers are plugged into.

Did exactly what you said. Works like a champ. Plus, under the Soundcard tab, I changed from ASIO to Directsound, because I couldn't get any sound out of ASIO in the sampler thereafter. Here are some screenshots in case anybody has a similar issue. Thanks richiebee!
