I'm not sure whether Brandon's post about Komplete was pre-sale prices, but just as a heads up, some of the NI stuff has a wicked discount on their web site for their Anniversary Sale. Kontakt isn't in there unfortunately, but Absynth is which might be useful if you decide that a synth of this description is for you. Since it was 50% off, I decided to take the plunge with Absynth. I don't fully understand its architecture yet (playing with the demo), but sonically it is fantastic. It was a kind of impulse purchase (except that it took support some prompting to respond to a customs inquiry I had)... maybe I'll regret it, maybe I wont. I am happy with some of my freeware synths, so it is kind of a luxury purchase for me, but who knows... may be it'll nail me that movie scoring job I always dreamed of. ![]() Anyway, it's worth you checking out what the deal is on their web site if you're in the market for one or more of their products. www.native-instruments.com |

Do a search for CRYSTAL.... it's a VERY GOOD - FREE synth... there are some cool ones out there for free... I'd probably hold off on the K2... it sounds like you have got you hands full already, and you may want to decide to purchase something like EWQL Silver and get a crossgrade pricing on K2. |

Yes, I do have my hands fool. On top of learning my new software, I'm still finishing a few local projects, producing a project (just me and my songwriter buddy, and trying to run this damn website. I actually decided last night that I would not buying anything until it is needed. The sampler will have to wait until I have a specific song that requires a sampler to obtain the desired sounds. Along with learning to use Cubase SX3 comes the need to learn how to sequence, learn more about how to think like a drummer, pushing myself to become at least semi-proficient at bass, etc. It's quite clear that there is A LOT more to learn and I willl have to be A LOT more self sufficient than I have in the past. As far as synths are concerned, I've been very happy with the includes VSTi's in SX3. For my needs thus far, they have been just fine. Obvious problems are drums and maybe bass (maybe I'm going to stick with using real bass for a little while). I just know that I will need a cello or something fairly soon and I'm going to need a fairly convincing sample or VSTi to pull it off. It seams that Kontakt2 is the right choice. Brandon |
