Default multiple sessions of a vst instrument

does anyone use multiple tracks of the same vst instrument with different patches/sessions per track? i was wanting to use a particular soft synth with more than 1 track, with a different patch per track. dont know if it can be done or not in cubase, or does it depend on the vst?

Yes you can. Process depends on the VSTi. Some can have more than one patch going at hte same time using different MIDI channels to access the different patches, others you'll need to load a second instance of the plugin into your VSTi rack.

Yup. That "channels" thing is something you have surely ran into. I always forget that Cubase will sometimes automatically change the channel to something other than "1" when I add a new MIDI track and of course, this makes the VSTi I just loaded play the wrong sound until I change it to channel 2 or whatever.

Cubase does this so if you are using a VSTi that has multiple channels, it will automatically setup the second track to go to channel #2.

I'm not sure. I don't have Reason. I know Reason uses Rewire....which is kind of a "sort of integrated" type of thing.

I wish I was of more useful in this regard.

Do you still need help with this? Looks like kind of an old post. I use Reason in Cubase all of the time. If you need any help I'd be happy to. There's also some really good Cubase tutorials that explain this in detail.

yeah still need help. I use reason adapted, which i think is a scaled down version. how do you set up multiple subtractor channels with a different patch on each? or any of the other reason synths or samplers in the same manner. i'll probably be upgrading to reason 4 in a couple weeks, so maybe thats the issue.

open Cubase first go to devices, open Reason, the Rewire channel will open up, activate as many channels as you're going to use... now open Reason.. open subtractor, do whatever you want in that device then open your next subtractor or whatever you want to use... hit the tab, route your cables to audio in that will give you seperate channels in Cubase.. just keep in mind to have your tempos set to the same in each.. it is so much fun when you get the hang of it. opens up so many possibilites.. see if this works for you

i must be retarded or maybe my software just doesnt do this. i see how to select multiple rewire channels in cubase, but I dont understand how to have 2 MIDI tracks in cubase that are assigned to 2 different subtractor patches at the same time. I looked on the reason back panel, and I only see 1 audio output from subtractor. I can only put 1 session of subtractor in my reason rack, so whenever i change subtractor patches, both MIDI tracks routed to subtractor change to the same patch.

subtractor goes out to mixer, from there route it to the audio in at the top which would be the midi in device... my devices are set up as followed at the top is the midi in device, below it is the mixer, effects, synths etc.... try this see if it works
