Question MIDIs to drum machine

Please accept my apology if this was already posted yesterday. I am new to the site and could not find the thread I tried to post anywhere this morning.
My buddy and I both have our own Roland Boss DR770 Drum Machines. We use them for our own practice and some live Classic Country Music gigs.
The Boss DR770 is an awesome machine but it is very lacking in country music patterns.
A software program called “EZdrummer” with the added “Nashville” package has several MIDI files we want to use but I just can’t find out how to transfer the MIDI files into the DR770 to be used as patterns.
On my PC I have loaded “EZdrummer”, “EZplayerPro”, “Toontrack solo” and the “Nashville” add on package. I have a “Hosa” midi to USB cable with the driver installed.
I love this site and its members. Thank you in advance for any help you might give me.

Once you get the whole midi thing working, you have to read the manual for the drum machine on if you can program a pattern through midi. I know my old SR-16 You had room for user patterns but they had to be programmed in by hand, I think, never thought of transfering from midi.

So you have a midi interface, you would usually need to set the clocks, so output a midi clock from your computer program and set the drum machine to slave to it then if it has a record mode you should be able to start it from the computer. This is something I would do with a sequencer like cubase. Maybe the stand alone EZ can do it.

Maybe someone here with a similar machine who has actually done this will chime in...

Question Re: MIDIs to drum machine

Thanks for your help. From what I can tell so far is that the DR770 does not have the abbility to record midi files. The thought of hand programming is overwhelming.
Now I have to deside what I can do next to get the patterns I need. One person I spoke to said just to buy a laptop and use it for our gigs.
We have had pretty good crowd responce even with the lack of good country patterns in the drummer.
There are not enough hours in the day to have a normal life and to program a drummer.

Thanks, Bill Hanzal

There's a midi file player... but it costs as much as a drum machine.

A cheap laptop might be good, that and a midi interface. Midi doesn't take a lot of processing so it can be pretty old.

Have you tried sending midi to it while it's doing a real time recording?

Worth a try.

Garageband mentioned in another thread that one can just record the midi output and play back the wav or mp3. I suppose a small mp3 player would store quite a bit.
