Default Midi & software?

I have a midi keyboard and plug in to my laptop by usb. Yet when i try playing the "native instrument" software (electrik piano - Battery) all i hear is my keyboard sounds already built in? the keys seem to move on screen yet no sound (no synth noises). I bought the keyboard so i could get a real piano sound via the software because thats what i thought you do?

Im getting really stressed out as i keep staring into a load of software yet to record? i was told it was just as easy to use as a tape deck? my ass!!
Thanks again!!

It sounds like you have routed the MIDI to the Windows Wavetable thing and not to the instrument you want to hear.

You may want to check out the 2 MIDI guides in the member's only area.
