Default MIDI setup not working

Hi,
I am trying to set up my keyboard as a midi input device, and I am not having any luck. Please help.
I have a Yamaha P140 keyboard and an E-MU 0404 USB2 interface, and did the following:
Connected the MIDI out on the keyboard to the MIDI in on the interface.
Connected the interface to my laptop with the USB cable.
Turned "local control" OFF on the keyboard.

In Cubase LE I did:
Checked "MIDI Through Active"
Created a new MIDI track, made it the active track and armed it for record. Also enabled monitor.
Selected "All MIDI Inputs" for in on this track. I also tried selecting the E-MU.

Selected VB-1 as virtual instrument 1.
Selected VB-1 as out for the track.

I am not getting any input on this track, and I don't know what else to do. I am able to play demo MIDI track I have.
Is there maybe a way I can test my hardware to see if that is the problem.
I am using a lenovo T61 laptop with XP Pro.
Thanks for any help.
-Henry

Default Re: MIDI setup not working

I'd check out the two MIDI guides in the Member's Only section.
