I have this really weird problem with my home studio setup.
I use the Motu 8PRE as sound card and recording interface. I use the midi in to connect my USB keyboard controller (M-Audio Keystation Pro88) and it works great with Reason. Now, my problem is I can't hear any Midi playback. I hear my Reason tracks since they are not midi playback, I just record the tracks using midi language. So basically, I can use midi, but I can't play it. I dont know if this is because the motu 8pre doesn't handle the midi playback ? Is there something I'm missing out on... ? thanks for your help ! |

I can't here a midi file neither in Guitar Pro, nor in iTunes, nor on WindowsMedia. Can't hear it on Band-in-a-box either. In fact, any program playback based on a midi file won't play.
I just don't have any midi sound at all. What I find funny is that I can record in PropellerHead Reason (using the NN19 sequencer, or any other) through my Midi In Port, using my midi controller. But the .midi files don't play on my PC. |

Oh I see. Well I'm guessing the reason is that your 8Pre doesn't have a built in synthesizer. If you're in Windows, you might be able to go into the control panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, then on the Audio tab see if there's a setting for anything other than the 8pre. Your old sound card (if you have one) probably has one - maybe the MS GS Wavetable SW Synth. If you have your "Sound Playback" set to your 8Pre, then the MIDI should be played through your old sound card, and routed to the audio outputs of the 8Pre.

Yes, I do have that MS GS Wavetable SW Synth. And it does say it is routed to my Motu main outs.
But using either this or the 8PRE setting doesn't change anything.. And under sounds and audio devices, I do see some Motu Audio WAV devices, as well as Motu Audio MIDI... It's the only bummer I get from this 8pre, I'd have to know if anyone else using has the same problem or if there's something I don't understand haha. Thanks for your help man |
