Default Midi out from dtxplorer to cubase

Hi everybody,

This is probably pretty basic but I've been trying to record my dt xplorer drum kit in cubase le 4 via the midi output on the dt xplorer to a usb on my computer for a few hours now without any sound on cubase.

Is it impossible to record with midi input with just the basic sound card (soundblaster audigy) that came with my pc ? In device setup in cubase the usb drum cable reads under output only . In control panel, in sounds and audio devices, there is only a midi music playback option which shows the usb e drums. There is no indication a midi input will work with the computer. Do you guys reckon thats the problem ? I haven't a clue what Im doing and don't know jack about midi, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Im using a asio v4 all driver in cubase le 4, a midi to usb cable I got for three euro on ebay, a dell with 3.2ghz processor and 150Gb free space.

I'd start in Windows Control Panels > Sound and Audio Devices and see if you can get your MIDI gadget to show up.

If it doesn't show up there you may have a dud. These things are supposed to be plug and play and to my knowledge don't need any drivers.

I guess I'm confused.

Your using the midi out of the dtx?

Going to a USB?

So you have a USB midi interface that your plugging a midi cable from the dtx to it?

Or the dtx has a USB cable?

Either way if it's not showing up the USB driver isn't installed or not installed properly.

May be. My Korg doesn't need a driver but a lot of other devices do require a driver install.

Hey guys

thanks for your response
Im using a midi to usb converter cable from the dt xplorer to the computer. The cable has an input and output midi connection cable on one side and a usb on the other side. Im plugging the cable marked in to the midi out on the dt xplorer and not doing anything with the cable marked out. I bought this cable on ebay and thought it was the standard way to hook up a dt xplorer to a computer. In Windows > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Midi music Playback, the usb shows up. There is no option for midi input in sounds and audio devices. In cubase. the usb shows up under outputs and not inputs under midi port connection. I sent an email to creative support to see if my soundcard supports midi input, they haven't gotten back to me yet. Is this the wrong cable to use or the wrong way to connect a dt xplorer to a computer ? Cheers for your help

Well there is no such thing as a midi to usb cable.

You need an interface, which is what this thing is, I'm guessing.

Really cheap things don't work for shit, I mean as a general rule, I think Thomas Edison said that.

A lot of creative cards had a midi interface on them that you used a cable from the joystick port.

But I'm thinking if your card did have a midi port on it, it would show up in cubase midi under device setup.
