Default Midi out from dtxplorer to cubase

Hi everybody,

This is probably pretty basic but I've been trying to record my dt xplorer drum kit in cubase le 4 via the midi output on the dt xplorer to a usb on my computer for a few hours now without any sound on cubase.

Is it impossible to record with midi input with just the basic sound card (soundblaster audigy) that came with my pc ? In device setup in cubase the usb drum cable reads under output only . In control panel, in sounds and audio devices, there is only a midi music playback option which shows the usb e drums. There is no indication a midi input will work with the computer. Do you guys reckon thats the problem ? I haven't a clue what Im doing and don't know jack about midi, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. Im using a asio v 4 all driver, cubase le 4, a midi to usb cable I got for three euro on ebay, a dell with 3.2ghz processor and 150Gb free space.

It sounds like you got a good handle on the setup. Make sure you Windows system can playback standard MIDI files OK.

Remember that MIDI has no sound. It has to be associated with a MIDI sound module - often the wavetable synth in Windows(or audigy if soundfonts are loaded), or a VST.

The asio4all driver should show what it can access. There may be too much going-on for everything at once. Just enable what you need in ASIO. ASIO is just sound and has nothing to do with MIDI, but if you want the audigy to act as a sound module for MIDI then you need to enable it.

you might also just try directx and the other sound options available.

Hey thanks again for your advice, the cheap cable i got on ebay was labelled wrong but it works ok, the instructions were to plug out to in and in to out like normal, but the cable actually works if you plug out to out and in to in . i must have been doing something else wrong the first time i tried that , anyway i got midi goin in the end.
