I don't think cubase is a GM player so you have to set the tempo yourself. I'm not sure where in a midi file the tempo is but you could search through everything in list view to see if you can find it if you don't know it.

On the transport bar I've set my signature as 4/4 which is correct. However for some of the midi file songs i'v e had to set the tempo at 60 for the song to sound right. Can't understand why i'v e had to slow it down to that speed.
