Hello, everyone... go easy, I'm an aspiring noob. Shortly after Christmas, I'm planning on buying a keyboard that is not meant to be used as a midi controller, but has a midi out and midi in on the back of it. I would like to be able to use this with Reason, but it won't have the knobs and sliders and so on to control the settings of the synth I'd be using in Reason. Is there a peice of equipment out there (for I have not seen one), that would control the synth settings, and if so, would I be able to use the keyboard and midi controller simultaneously while recording to a track in Reason? I kind of doubt this is possible from what I know about Reason and midi routing, but I am completely self taught and have never really read up on it. Thanks for the help! |

I think I know what you are asking. Your cheapest entry point would be something along the lines of this. http://www.behringer.com/BCR2000/index.cfm?lang=ENG I use an M-Audio Keystation 88 pro as my master keyboard. The keys feel good and it has a buttload of knobs and a bank of faders on it which allow me to control everything in reason and any other software. Second hand I picked it up for just under $700 aus. If you are happy with the feel of the keyboard you are getting though, the behringer controller should work out just fine for you. There is no reason why you cannot use multiple controllers simultaneously in reason. |

Ah, yes that is exactly what I was looking for. I'm planning on just getting a plain keyboard that is meant as a piano replacement, but I'd like to be able to use it for midi as well (budget!), so that will be a great help until I can afford a true midi controllor. Thanks again for the help.

before you buy one of those new " 27 ultra key usb keyboard controllers", take a look at the older used stuff. You'll probably need an inexpensive midi interface as well, but you'll actually have a chance to make music instead of becoming an expert on short delay times because of the freaking latency.... not to mention, many of those units were actually purchased for their SOUND, not convenience - which actually does matter in the world of audio.....
